Monograph

Our final graphics assignment consisted of putting together a Monograph.  If you've never heard of a Monograph, it's similiar to a portfolio however it's much different in the fact that it is meant to be more than simply a review of your work.  Rather, it's suppossed to be a bit more vague, linking the works together with some sort of common theme or idea.  More or less, I was thinking of it as some sort of interesting coffee table book presenting my work from the semester.  There's alot of revisions and additional stuff that I plan on adding to this, but here's my first draft.  My professor seemed to dig it so that was cool, considering I didn't sleep for 36 hours getting it finished to this point.

Studio Project 3: New Jersey Artist's Space

Brief project description:

Your challenge is to design a single storey Artists space that will house the work of four of New Jersey’s most celebrated artists; George Segal, Robert Smithson, Roy Lichtenstein and Ben Shahn. You must develop an appropriate image for the museum that reflects its collection; its desire to be part of the Newark art scene; and a building program that takes an active role in the community of Newark.
**More to come..

Graphics assignment numero 3

Our final studio project for the semester involved designing a Newark based museum for four specific artists, all of whom lived and worked in New Jersey at some point of their lives.  The project was meant to be carried out, starting with the design of a gallery for one of the four specific artists and branching out from there.

This was another Graphics assignment, again working in conjunction with studio and dealing with the museum project.
Project 4 - Diagram Models
1. Plaster model: Model of gallery interior space exploring space as a void.
2. Surface model: Thinking as skin, enclosure as a singular sheet that gets cut and folded to create enclosed space. This is to be made from one sheet of material.
3. Wire model: This model is exploring all aspects of networking through space. This is often thought of as circulation, movement thru, but can also inlcude other networking opportunites.

Bird Blind re-visited

Card Project re-visited

Since I've finally had a little time I 'tuned-up' my very first project of the semester; The Card Project.

Bringin' in the New Year!

Well my first semester is officially one week over.  It was by far, the hardest thing that I have ever done in my entire life.  After some very serious low points, countless sleepless nights in the studio, severe moments of doubt and dispair and watching over half of our class drop out (started with 23, now there are 11 of us), I made it! And while I'm sure my roomates and friends (not to mention my girlfriend) have seriously doubted my sanity over the last few months, I can say that I have learned more than I ever thought to be even remotely possible.  Not to mention I rather enjoy Architecture.

As for the blog, things got so incredibly busy for such a sustained period of time that I haven't had a chance to post any of my work since the bird blind project.  So I've decided to upload just about everything, including my revised work from both the card project and the bird blind project.

Looking forward I'm psyched for a big new year and many more positive changes!  If there's one thing that I've learned from the past year, it's that positivity truly does work and just saying YES is pretty radical too.  So here's to keeping the ball rolling into 2010, staying positive, just saying YES and making things happen!  Mantra - "Positive changes around the bend..."
